Terminated County Employee in Custody at Mississippi County Jail

The Mississippi County employee terminated last week following discrepancies in county banking records is in custody at the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Sheriff Dale Cook, Doris Christina Thorp turned herself into the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department around 9 a.m. Monday. She faces felony theft charges.

Though Sheriff Cook declined to release the amount allegedly stolen from the county, he did say it was more than $1,000.

Thorp is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Mississippi County Judge John Alan Nelson has said the employee was associated with the county landfill but worked out of the courthouse.

According to Nelson, personnel with Arkansas Legislative Audit contacted him last week regarding discrepancies in banking records.

Judge Nelson contacted Prosecuting Attorney Curtis Walker, informed him of the incident, and asked that he review the Arkansas Legislative Auditor’s findings once they are complete.
